Analyses for Feasibility of Geothermal (Geo-Exchange) Heat Pumps

Any Calculation Results are Estimates - Based only on Generalized Data.:

As per Alabama Power ® -> Customer expectations for heating & cooling energy savings for geothermal heat pumps should be approximately 50% plus an additional 50% savings in hot water heating if the system is fitted with a "desuperheater" for preheating hot water. Each application will vary due to differences in other energy efficiency factors such as types of windows, insulation, etc. as well as the relative efficiency of your existing system. For calculating savings, there are many different case studies for different areas of the country and different applications. Many cases cite up to 70% savings and others cite as little as 30% savings. However, there is no more credible source for a generalized anticipation of savings in the Southeast than the Southern Company which services much of Alabama & Georgia plus parts of Florida and Mississippi. (Alabama, Georgia, Gulf and Mississippi Power) Using the 50% savings rate with the below calculator will project cumulative savings over the realistic life expectancy for geothermal systems.

Coming Soon - During August 2008, a detailed feasibility analysis report capability will be added here.

These calculated projections assume that current energy prices are equal to the past years average and that prices will neither drop nor rise over the next 20 years! - How likely do you figure that to be? Immediate savings of at least 50% is realistic, or even conservative, if your existing heating & cooling system is older and nearing the end of it's life or if you're space heating a large area with propane, natural gas or electric elements (strips).
